Landscape Renovation
In 2012 University Reformed Church (URC) moved to a new building. After completing the interior remodel, attention turned to renovate the neglected landscape.
Poison ivy grew in-between the overgrown shrubs and dying trees. Stone mulch that had escaped from the planting beds was being thrown by the mower into the garden level windows. Lawn, eroded by rainfall, caused dirt to splash onto the windows.
A carefully selected groundcover along the building foundation stopped the dirt from splashing and keeps views open from the staff windows in the garden level offices.
The landscape renovation, with its varying heights, bloom times and textures engages adults and children alike, who enjoy the dynamic beauty as a warm welcome to the church.
Elements Studio managed the volunteer effort to renovate the landscape. Much like an extreme makeover, the new plants were installed and the mulch was spread all in one day.
